"Toshiba has a long history of designing products for highly targeted audiences. With this new line of Tecra laptops, Toshiba has tailored its products to meet the needs of the growing small and medium sized businesses segment," said Carl Pinto, vice president of marketing, Toshiba America Information Systems, Inc., Digital Products Division. "Small- and medium-sized business owners have asked for laptops built with specific functionality and a direct method to purchase and we've responded."
The 14-inch Tecra R940 starts at US$600 and can be configured with a third-generation Intel CPU, optional AMD dedicated graphics and up to 16GB of RAM. Tecra R940 14-inch has widescreen display with LED backlight.
While R950 has a 15.6-inch LED-backlit widescreen high-definition display.
The 15.6-inch Tecra R950 also retails for US$600 and up, and both laptops can be configured with 320GB hard drives all the way up to 512GB SSDs.Both will be free to be upgraded to Windows 7 Professional Edition.
Its previous Tecra line was given the Ivy Bridge treatment, and its in-built features such as fingerprint readers and Smart Client Manager, made it an enterprise-focused device. Today, Toshiba is giving smaller business something new (something with a smaller price tag as well), which holds the exact same name as its previous Tecra line. However, these two new models are only available through ToshibaDirect, and they left out the higher-end security features such as the fingerprint reader to keep it affordable.
